ABPI is launching the 2nd Patent of the Year Award. In 2021, the best patent of the year aimed at sustainable economic development will be awarded. The objective is to reward the work of professionals and companies that recognize the importance of Intellectual Property and seek protection in Brazil for their creations. Enrollment runs until July 23, 2021 and must be made through the ABPI application.

Applications for patents granted or patents granted by the INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property) and that are in force can compete for the 2nd Patent of the Year Award ABPI 2021.

The prize will be delivered virtually, during the 41st International Congress on Intellectual Property of the ABPI, which will be held from August 23 to 26, 2021. The winner will receive an exemption from monthly fees at the ABPI for one year.

The evaluation and selection of the winning case will be made by the Judging Committee, formed by members of the Academy of Intellectual Property, Innovation and Development of the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), which will use the following evaluation criteria and different weights: potential for generating benefits social (35%); environmental impact (15%); potential for generating economic benefits (30%); internationalization of protection (10%); gender approach (5%) and participation of Brazilian inventors (5%)

First Edition of the Award – In 2020, the winners of the 1st Patent of the Year ABPI Award were Marcos Pinotti Barbosa (in memorian), Shirley Lima Campos, Cleysson Bruno Santos Vimieiro and Daniel Neves Rocha, members of the Federal University of Minas Gerais – UFMG. They stood out in the development of an inventive solution, object of an invention patent – ​​PI 0903266-5, for the Endobronchial Secretion Aspiration Method and Probe.
