The Full Court of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJ-RJ) approved, this Friday (3), the creation of chambers specialized in Business Law. The creation of specialized chambers, within the scope of the TJ-RJ, including matters of Intellectual Property, is an old ABPI request. In April of this year, the president of the entity, Luiz Edgard Montaury Pimenta, discussed the matter with the president of the TJ-RJ, judge Henrique Figueira, and the head of the 17th Civil Chamber of the TJ-RJ, judge Elton Martinez Carvalho Leme, with the participation by Felipe Dannemann Lundgren, president of the Industrial Property Commission of the OAB-RJ. Judge Henrique Figueira participated in the 41st ABPI Congress, in August this year. “It is with great satisfaction that we receive the news of the creation of the business chambers, which will make more technical decisions feasible and, therefore, greater legal certainty in matters of intellectual property”, said Montaury Pimenta.

The judges of the Full Court also approved the proposal to change the jurisdiction of the Civil Chambers, which will be divided into Public Law and Private Law Chambers. The TJ-RJ will prepare a study for the detailed planning of the changes. The creation in the TJ-RJ of Business Chambers, already adopted in other courts, was approved by a majority. The number of these specialized chambers will be defined later. “I would like to say how excited I am at seeing this plenary full, after so long, with countless colleagues. It is a joy to review them in person. The Court is celebrating today.”, said the president of the TJ-RJ.
