ABPI is launching the Patent of the Year Award. In this first edition, the best patent for combating Covid-19 will be awarded. The objective is to reward the work of professionals and companies that recognize the importance of Intellectual Property and seek protection in Brazil of their creations. Registrations are open until September 4, 2020.
Any natural or legal person who has a deferred patent application or patent granted to the INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property) related to the prevention or treatment of Covid-19 can apply.
The award, which has the support of the INPI, will be delivered virtually, during the 40th ABPI International Intellectual Property Congress, which takes place from October 19 to 22 this year. The winner will receive a monthly fee exemption at ABPI for one year.
The evaluation of inventions competing for the award is the responsibility of a Judging Committee that will take into account the following requirements, with different weights: potential for generating social benefits (35%), environmental impact (15%), potential for generating economic benefits (30%), internationalization of protection (10%) and participation of Brazilian inventors (10%).
