The President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (DEM-MG), decided, during the session this Wednesday (7/4), to withdraw from the voting list the Bill 12/2021, authored by Senator Paulo Paim (PT- RS), which establishes the temporary suspension of vaccine patents, diagnostic tests and drugs with proven efficacy against covid-19.
The article predicts that, as long as the state of sanitary emergency prevails, Brazil will be free to produce these items, without observing industrial property rights.
The withdrawal of the draft agenda came from government leaders in the Senate, Fernando Bezerra Coelho (MDB-PE), and in Congress, Eduardo Gomes (MDB-TO). They argued that it would be important, before voting on the project, to wait for an event in the Chamber, scheduled for the morning of Thursday (8/4), which will discuss the breach of vaccine patents to combat Covid- 19, when experts and representatives of different bodies and entities related to the topic will be heard.
