ABPI joins the board of “INPI Negócios”

The Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property – ABPI was one of the first private entities invited by the National Institute of Industrial Property – INPI to participate in the future Advisory Council of “INPI Negócios”, an initiative that aims to disseminate the culture and practice of intellectual property among companies , startups and universities, with the objective of increasing the number of intellectual property assets in the country. The information was provided by the INPI president, Cláudio Furtado, in a video conference on Youtube yesterday, the 21st, which was attended by more than 300 subscribers.

Mediator of the conversation, the president of ABPI, Luiz Edgard Montaury Pimenta, listed, in addition to INPI Negócios, other achievements of the current management of INPI, such as combating the patent backlog, adherence to the Madrid Protocol and success in the teleworking regime of the servers. Coordinated by the executive director of ABPI, Erika Diniz, the videoconference was also attended by the INPI, the Director of Administration, Júlio Castelo Branco, and the coordinators Alexandre Lopes and Felipe Augusto Melo de Oliveira. ABPI’s participation in “INPI Negócios” was also considered through the 14 Study Committees of the entity, which meet periodically and deal with specific issues of Intellectual Property.

According to Furtado, “INPI Negócios” will work with residents – startups, technological centers of companies and research centers of universities – in three vectors: first in the “creation” of Intellectual Property, followed by “protection” itself and, finally , in “alignment” with the monetization and commercialization process of the IP asset. The goal is to have a 20% growth in the number of patent filings, which on account of Covid-19 is around 14%. “We want to promote a paradigm shift in the autarchy from” producer “of IP asset concession to” disseminator “of the advantages of this system”.

The full video with this conversation can be accessed on ABPI’s YouTube channel.
