Those who fight for intellectual property cannot miss the 1st Scientific Meeting of ABPI Study Committees, which happens from June 20 – 24, in an online format. During these five days, with presentations at 9 and 11 a.m., and 5 p.m. (BRT), each of ABPI’s 15 Study Committees will hold a panel with experts to debate relevant and current issues of the intellectual property system. “This is a first-class event in the intellectual property field, bringing together, for the first time, in its environment, all the study committees, to debate and deepen with experts and members both classic and new IP topics”, explains ABPI’s reporter general Rodrigo de Ouro Preto.
On Monday, June 20, the first day of the event, the newly created Advocacy Committee will debate government actions in the IP sector, such as the Brazilian National Intellectual Property Strategy (ENPI), among other initiatives. Among the debaters are the director of Patents at the BPTO, Liane Lage, and the lawyer Rafael Fonseca de Pinho.
The technology theme will permeate several of the panels. The Patents & New Technologies Committee, for example, will focus on issues related to computer programs, blockchain, the 4th Industrial Revolution, Telecom, AI, and IoT. Guest speakers are Vagner Latsch, from the BPTO, the entrepreneur Maêssa Steffen and the engineer Miguel Gustavo Lizárraga. Technology will also be included in the panel led by the Sports and Electronic Games Committee.
Other panels involving contemporary intellectual property issues will be conducted by the Trademark, Patents, Digital Law & Data Privacy, Technology Transfer and Franchising, Industrial Design, Geographical Indications, Repression on Infractions & CNCP, International IP Law, Copyright and Personality Rights, Competition Law, Civil Procedure & ADR, and Cultivars & Biotechnology Study Committees.
Focused on study and research, ABPI Study Committees meet periodically to encourage debate in the field of Intellectual Property in all its aspects, including those related to other branches of Law.
