The modernization of ABPI and the first virtual congress

With over 1,500 accesses, Brazilian and foreign speakers, authorities from the three branches of government, and attendees from several countries, ABPI’s 40th International Congress on Intellectual Property, the first held on a virtual basis, was opened by ABPI’s President Luiz Edgard Montaury Pimenta yesterday morning.

In his speech, Pimenta highlighted the association’s modernization process, accelerated due to social isolation. “ABPI, which was already in the process of modernization, was forced to reinvent itself even more quickly”, he said. “We have evolved with the help of technology; we modernized ABPI in order to best meet the desires of our members and partners”.

Montaury Pimenta explained that ABPI has been investing in a more modern image – it renewed its brand, launched an app providing access to its media, promoted webinars, live sessions, podcasts, and increased its participation in social media with more quality content. “This has also enabled us to expand our activities with greater intensity to other Brazilian states”, he added.

On matters to be debated in Congress, the president of ABPI emphasized the initiative of the Ministry of Economy to revitalize the Interministerial Group on Intellectual Property and the recent Public Consultation to define a National Intellectual Property Strategy. In the end, he invited everyone to attend the announcement, on the last day of the event, of the winner of the Patent of the Year Award in the COVID area. Launched this year, the award will reward the best invention in the treatment of COVID-19.
