Opening of the 3rd Moot on July 4th

How to Prepare for an Arbitration” is the opening theme of the 3rd CSD-ABPI Moot — the Intellectual Property arbitration competition promoted by ABPI (Brazilian Intellectual Property Association) — with online presentations by lawyers Carlos Eduardo Stefen Elias and Isabel Cantidiano, which will take place on July 4th. The opening will be officiated by Manoel J. Pereira dos Santos, President of CSD and Director of the CSD-ABPI Arbitration Chamber, and Flavia Mansur Murad Schaal, Deputy Director.

Carlos Eduardo Stefen Elias holds a bachelor, master, and Ph.D. in Law from the University of São Paulo and is a postgraduate professor at IBMEC-SP. He is an arbitrator, consultant, and expert in providing legal opinions for corporate disputes, construction matters, and business contracts. Additionally, he is the author of the book titled “The Impartiality of Arbitrators,” published by Editora Almedina. Isabel Cantidiano is a lawyer in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, holds a bachelor’s degree in law from PUC-Rio, and has an LLM from the University of Cambridge. She has been the Director of the Brazilian Arbitration Committee since 2018.

The coordination has decided to postpone the competition to July 22nd and 23rd to avoid coinciding with the first phase of the OAB (Brazilian Bar Association) exam. “Many participants are law students, and this is a very special date for them. We decided to postpone it so that everyone could focus on the competition,” says Manoel J. Pereira dos Santos, President of CSD.

The 3rd CSD-ABPI Moot will take place online in morning and afternoon sessions. With the participation of several teams, including renowned universities and law firms, the competition will debate a fictional case of Industrial Property rights regarding an invention created by Artificial Intelligence.
