Hailing from Viersen, a city on the German-Dutch border, Klaus Grabinski was appointed President of the Court of Appeal at the Unified Patent Court (UPC) in October of last year. The UPC, composed of judges from all European Union member states, adjudicates on infringement and validity of European patents. Grabinski studied law at the Trier, Geneva, and Cologne Universities and has over 30 years of experience in patent litigation. He previously served as Judge at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court and as Presiding Judge of a Patent Litigation Division at the Düsseldorf Regional Court. He has authored several articles on Patent Law, Civil Procedure, and Private International Law.
