BPTO’s Manual of Geographical Indications comes into force in February

The first edition of the Manual of Geographical Indications of the BPTO (Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office) comes into force on February 1st. Officialized by the BPTO/PR Ordinance No. 415, of December 24th, 2020, the Manual contains details on examination procedures and guidelines and technical definitions for applications, becoming a reference for examiners, attorneys, and users in general.

The publication of the Manual of Geographical Indications occurs after a public consultation carried out between February 27th and May 27th, 2020. The BPTO received 153 contributions, which were discussed and answered by the Standing Committee for Improvement of Examination Procedures and Guidelines (CPAPD).
