ABPI at the Public Hearing on Artificial Intelligence

On August 11th, ABPI — the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association — participated in a Public Hearing promoted by the Culture Commission of the Chamber of Deputies to discuss the impacts of Artificial Intelligence on Intellectual Property.

Representing ABPI, the 1st vice-president of the association, Peter Eduardo Siemsen, discussed the difficulty of identifying the origin of infringement in works generated by algorithms, and highlighted Generative AI as the central point of discussion, as it is effectively the generator of new copyright content. For him, it is necessary to understand whether it is worthwhile to propose changes in the current Industrial Property Law or create a new legal framework regarding Intellectual Property and copyright.
