Registration for the 4th CSD-ABPI Moot opens on June 5. Teams that register by July 15 will benefit from discounted registration fees.
Organized by the Dispute Resolution Center of the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association (CSD-ABPI), the CSD-ABPI Moot is the first and only arbitration competition in Brazil focused exclusively on Intellectual Property. Inspired by renowned international moot competitions, the event simulates an arbitration proceeding involving a fictional IP dispute.
“Participating in the CSD-ABPI Moot is a unique opportunity to deepen your knowledge of arbitration and intellectual property while transforming your professional trajectory,” says Manoel J. Pereira dos Santos, President of the CSD-ABPI. He highlights that the Moot fosters networking with leading experts in arbitration and intellectual property, including prominent professionals from top law firms and academic institutions. “The Moot offers participants real-world experience in arbitration and intellectual property, helping them develop practical legal skills such as research, argumentation, and oral advocacy, while also gaining recognition in both the legal and academic communities,” he adds.
This year, the winning team will receive a cash prize of R$18,000 (eighteen thousand reais), along with a one-year ABPI membership for all team members and coaches. This membership includes free access to all ABPI events, except for the ABPI Congress and paid courses.
The competition is open to teams of up to 10 members, including eight competitors and two coaches, formed by institutions offering undergraduate or postgraduate law programs, law firms duly registered with the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), and academic or student organizations or associations.
Volunteer Coaches – A new feature of this 4th edition is the opportunity to participate as a volunteer coach supporting registered teams. Coaches may participate regardless of any formal affiliation with the teams’ institutions. Once selected by a team, the coach will have the opportunity to share their expertise, mentor students, and strengthen their connection with the intellectual property community.
Professionals interested in serving as volunteer coaches can register by emailing moot@csd-abpi.org.br. Applications for volunteer coaches are open until June 3.
“This is a valuable opportunity for professionals with experience in IP or arbitration to contribute to training the next generation of legal professionals in this field,” concludes the President of the CSD-ABPI.
The competition will take place on September 27 and 28. The case for this edition will be released soon. Stay updated with the rules and all the latest information on the 4th CSD-ABPI Moot website or through our social media channels.
