Registrations for the 2nd ABPI 2021 Patent of the Year Award, promoted by ABPI with support from the BPTO, are open until July 23 rd . In this edition, the award will include applications for patents granted or patents in force filed in Brazil that contribute to sustainable economic development. The Judging Committee will take into account the following items: potential for generating social benefits (35%); potential for generating economic benefits (30%); environmental impact (15%); internationalization of protection (10%); gender approach (5%); participation of Brazilian inventors (5%). The winner will receive the award during ABPI’s 41 st International Congress on Intellectual Property, which will be held from August 23rd to 26th , 2021.
In 2020, the winners of the 1st ABPI Patent of the Year Award were Marcos Pinotti Barbosa (in memoriam), Shirley Lima Campos, Cleysson Bruno Santos Vimieiro and Daniel Neves Rocha, members of the Federal University of Minas Gerais – UFMG. They stood out in the development of an inventive solution, object of an invention patent – PI 0903266-5, for the Method and Probe of Endobronchial Aspiration of Secretions.
