2019 Map of Geographical Indications

The 2019 version of the Map of Geographical Indications of Brazil is available on the page of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), with information on the regions of origin of products and services certified by Indication of Origin and/or Appellation of Origin. Resulting from a partnership with the BPTO, the updated version of the map has four new products, totaling up to 62 Geographical Indications certified until May this year.

The 2019 version of the Map of Geographical Indications of Brazil includes four new products: derived from Jabuticaba de Sabará (MG), cocoa from Tomé-Açu (PA) and green coffee from western Bahia (BA), which have received Origin Indication stamps; and the banana from Corupá (SC), which received a Denomination of Origin seal.

Used to identify the origin of products or services from a known location or where a particular feature or quality of the product or service is due to its origin, the BPTO Geographical Indication Seal is regulated by Intellectual Property Law No. 9,279. It can assume two models: Indication of Origin (IP) – article 177, and Denomination of Origin (DO) – article 178.
